Job Summary

This position is located in The MathWorks Munich (Ismaning), Germany office.  Fluent German and English language skills are required.

The biotech and pharmaceutical (BP) industry, produces products and provides services that relate to the analysis of biological data and the simulation of biological, diagnostic and therapeutic systems. This position focuses on a segment of the BP industry: Computational Biology and Bioinformatics
The explosive growth of data about genes, proteins, and drug molecules and their functions and interactions, necessitates efficient mathematical algorithms and software tools to extract meaning from that data. These algorithms and tools must be equally effective with raw data generated through gene sequencing, allele scoring, high-throughput screening assays, and expression array analysis. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist sales personnel in managing the technical aspects of the sales process directed primarily at customers working on Computational Biology Applications.
The Application Engineer is responsible for demonstrating his/her knowledge during customer meetings, conference calls, through the delivery of public seminars, and in the development of complex product demonstrations.
Application Engineers have the chance to create a large network within the company that facilitates their career at The MathWorks.



Responsibilities

Providing technical pre-sales support and guidance to The MathWorks Germany sales organization.

Working as a team, the Application Engineer assists the salesperson first, in understanding and synthesizing customer requirements, then explaining the features and capabilities of our products relative to their specific needs.
Preparing and delivering presentations to customers and prospects. These are delivered during customer meetings and during marketing seminars. These sessions include, but are not limited to live software demonstrations and associated slide presentations.
Analyzing users' problems to determine and implement the best computational approach. Occasionally, customers who are preparing to acquire software require guidance on how to use evaluation products.
Providing technical pre-sales support and guidance to The MathWorks Germany sales organization, secondly as a pan-European resource to various countries in Europe.
Developing demonstration programs, application examples, and simulation models. These are generally used as support for a sales call or to make a solution clear relative to an application support assignment.
As the Application Engineers at The MathWorks are seen as the key persons to understand customer needs, giving direction to development is an important part of the day-to-day work.



Qualifications

Requirements:

Masters degree in a relevant engineering speciality and at least 5 years of industrial experience

Fluent German and English (written and spoken)

This person should possess an Engineering or Bioinformatics degree and have familiarity with or experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical area.
Experience with MATLAB, Simulink and additional MathWorks products (such as Statistics Toolbox) is a plus.
The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to perform computational analysis, modeling, and simulation tasks and be able to discuss how our products are used to solve engineering and business problems.
Candidates should be interested in working directly with customers to help them understand how to apply our products to their problems.
They should have excellent communication skills and proficiency in the delivery of presentations and be fluent in English and German.
Travel is generally throughout Germany specific to various seminars, customer visits, etc. Though far less frequent, some international travel is expected. The candidate should expect to travel about 25-35% of the time.
